If you have Gmail and Android/IOS/Blackberry, make sure you secure them with a feature from Google called Authenticator. Basically this is how they work. They churn out a new password every 10 seconds based on the synched timer on your phone. This same algorithm runs on the server.
When user login their Gmail account on the browser, it would ask them both their username and password. After verifying the information, it would ask for the authentication password.
This authentication password is generated every 10 seconds and no authentication password is the same after one another. This way, even hackers could grab hold of your username/password: there is no way they can attain this authentication password. Well, basically that's not true, but they have to hack their way and intercept your communication halfway while logging your account on the fly. However, this is very time consuming and it takes a lot of resources for this task. Rest assured however that this would deter any hackers from use social engineering to get into your account.
Basically it's very simple to set up an authenticator.
- Access the following URL: https://www.google.com/settings/security (cut and paste yourself, don't be lazy).
- Click to enable the 2-Step Verification.
- From here on, follow the wizard that will help you to set up your authenticator.
